| Title: | Sandö Sugga | | Caption: | Sandö Sugga is a moraine island in the Sandöfjärd, municipality of Värmdö, east of Stockholm, with a lighthouse. The island has been severely eroded by surging waves and pressure and suction effects primarily from the in size growing ferries in traffic between Sweden and Finland in the Sandhamn fairway. Therefore, during the last thirty years much of the island and most of its trees, shrubs and grass have disappeared. When the photo was taken, only two minor shrubs and some grass were left on the western part of the island. | | Location: | Sandö Sugga, Sandöfjärden, Municipality of Värmdö, archipelago of Stockholm, Northern Baltic Proper, Baltic Sea, Sweden, Europe. | | Keywords: | Island, moraine, sand, gravel, stone, boulder, mute swan, gull, erosion, surge, suction effect, pressure effect, shrub, grass, lighthouse, ferry traffic, archipelago, | | Photographer: | Gunnar Aneer | | Byline/Credit: | Gunnar Aneer/Azote | | Image reference: | gub2010-05-07_2114 |
